Roadtrip

06.December 2009 - Hobart

finally some time off from work after doing fundraising for 4 weeks!!!

rented a car with Katrin and Hannah from my team and Rich, Mike and Mr. Norway (Christian) took their car (they had been in my team before as well).

day 1: start at around 11.30
made our way to the Glowworm Cave near Mole Creek: a really nice and big cave with many stalagtites and -mites ;), a big cathedral part where our tourguide sang a song for us to show us the effect! :)
as the name says, there were glowworms in there as well, really nice to see them in the pitch blackness
drive through nice scenery towards Cradle Mountain where we checked onto the campsite.
walking around at dusk while spotting wallabies, oppossums, wombats and other wildlife
highlight: me and Katrin saw a Tasmania Devil, which are almost extinct and you usually only see them in the zoo but we saw one crossing our way when we went to the bathroom!!!! :)
the night itself was freezing cold, was really glad to share a 2 man tent with 2 more people which made it bearable (and the hot shower in the morning which brought us all back to life!!!)

day 2: Cradle Mountain, the most popular mountain in Tassie:
us girls were walking around Dove Lake with the Mountain in the background, the guys went up Marions lookout
really nice scenery, lovely picture spots!!!

evening: drive to Strahan, were we did wildcamping at Ocean Beach - absolutely wonderful!!!
having a fire and then falling asleep to the sound of the waves and...

day 3:...waking up to the sound of the waves and enjoying a nice refreshing swim in the sea!

next sportive ativity: rocking Henty Dune with our sandboards! It was really hard to keep the balance but still fun though ;)
and I have to admit: the guys did definetly better than us girls *lol*

afterwards of course another swim at Ocean Beach: it was so great there, it's about 30 km long and you're almost on your own!!!!!

back in the car to Nelson Falls: really beautful waterfalls, perfect for pictures in the middle of the rainforest <3

the drive itself was really stunning, you could see such a lot of diferent scenery: from huge mountains to great lakes, rainforest, meadows,...
and: almost no civilisation (just some really small villages for 300km), I didn't have any mobile reception for the whole roadtrip!!!

drive to the next campsite which we couldn't find so we ended up driving for hours in the darkness (it was so sad to see all the dead animals on the streets - we took care and only drove 40km/h!)
our place for the night: wildcamping next to a small village: it was freezing again, so I spent the night in the car (which is definetly less uncomfortable than a tent!!!)

day 4: visiting Mt. Field National Park: Russel Falls, another nice waterfall and walking around in the forest to see some of the tallest trees in the world after the Redwoods in California!)
then driving around, but without getting to any place, so we made our way back to Hobart where we arrived in the late afternoon and booked onto a campsite next to the water

day 5: drive to Frecynet National Park (with Sabrina, who we had picked up in Hobart!), which took us 3 hours, this time to see something of the East Coast after spending the other days in the western part of Tassie...

walking up the lookout at Wineglass Bay and then down to the bay itself, which is one of the top 10 beaches around the world!!!
I wasn't too much impressed to be honest, but you always see the pictures, when the weather is perfect and it was just too cloudy to get the perfect colours of the water... but still worth it going to!

our stay for the night: a campsite next to the ocean <3

day 6: swimming in the morning to wake up in the really chilly water xP but it was awesome!!!

afterwards the german girls and Mr. Norway went to explore some more of the park: a lighthouse and a great lookout towards wineglass bay and the coastline and then some wonderful little bays with turquoise and blue water and red rocks building up the shore...

at 12.45 unfortunately we had to drive back already to give the car back on time
last stop and one of the best parts of the whole trip: friendly beaches, a beach with really white sand and super blue and turquoise water - all of us were almost in tears, because we could only stop there for some minutes: we would have loved jus to stay there!! <3
16:00 back in Hobart
