Lemington National Park and a city that reminds me of Frankfurt

05.December 2011 - Brisbane

G'day all of you and merry christmas,

it's been quite a long time that I've provided you with some information about my Australia Trip, actualy that has to do with the fact, that I was pretty busy the last weeks and couldn't find any time to relax and just write down a story.

At first I had to admit that I nearly had to sleep on the street or ask random people if I can sleep at their place because i haven't booked my hostel in advance, there was no space left for the night I would arrive in Brisbane. Finally after calling every hostel in Brisbane the YHA luckily hat a room where I could stay for one night, but it was 36$ - so that's what happens if you be a bit to spontanous... but alright I had a place to sleep and after this night I anyway would move in another hostel I already booked and which was just 19$ a night!

Apart from this little thrill, my stay in Brisbane was much better than I expected it to be (as friend of smaller city's Brisbane wasn't kinda the thing where I was so happy about to go :D). The second hostel I stayed in - called somewhere to stay - was a lovely place. It wasn't the cleanest though, but the people were really friendly, it was not as unpersonal as the one before and every night there were people playing the guitar - so it was a really nice atmosphere.

As already planned in Noosa I was about to visit the Lemington National Park heading of from Brisbane. I was going there with three girls, who were my roommates in Noosa and from the UK, but studying for half a year in Australia.
To say at least, the National Park was fantastic! When we arrived we passed by at a Alpacka farm, to then find us surrounded by King Parrots, which were everywhere around the Visitor-Center.
Heading of for a day-trip we started with a tree-walk. The walk was made out of wooden bridges, connected to big trees and lead you just underneath the canopies to a point where you could climb up a ladder to have a gorgeous view over the whole area - really stunning!
After this little 30min walk we were going for a longer walking track, which would lead us to thick rainforest, along little creaks and some waterfalls and was about to take 4hours. Since the weather wasn't the best we experienced how it is to be in the middle of a cloud - you are surrounded by little raindrops that seem to be floating in the air and you almost won't get wet at all. Pretty amazing.
As said before we headed through this rainforest, climbed up on some of the really big roots and played Tarzan with all the Figs - it was great fun!
Returning to the Visitor Center I ate my Sandwich when suddenly a King Parrot came, climbed up my arm and went from my left to my right shoulder, trying to catch something to eat :D.

The next days I spend with chilling around, walking through Brisbane, which is actually a not so bad city, it's quite nice to stroll around and spend some time at Southbank or enjoy the view from one of the many bridges - espacially by night I would highly recommand to do this!
Since the weather wasn't very good and we had the coldest December Day since 100 years I as well spend some time in the library, wrote some stories, etc..

Over all I would say I enjoyed the stay in Brisbane very much, eventhough the weather wasn't the best, but I think it is what you do out of it :).

On the 8th of December I then was about to set of to Surfers Paradise, where I was booked in for 3 nights (I didn't want to have the same experience as in Brisbane again, to don't have a place to sleep :D)

I try to give you some more stories in the following days, but I can't promise anything, it will be busy until I found a job in Sydney (already got a place I can move on the 31 of December - that's great!).

Enjoy your holidays (at least if you have some) and I wish all of you a happy new year! :)
