Skyscrapers at the Beach

09.December 2011 - Surfers Paradise

How are ya mates?
I hope everyone enjoyed christmas :).

Surfers Paradise... before I even been there I was annoyed - on the bus drive to Surfers my teeth started to hurt and I had to take some painkillers.
As I arrived at 5pm, took painkillers and was quite tiered I decided to stay at the hostel instead of going out, with some others from the hostel.

The next day the toothache was gone and I took some time to have a look at Surfers Paradise and strolled along the beach. I have to admit - I didn't like it that much... It was by far the most touristic place I've been so far - many skyscrapers (everyone a hotel) and even the beach was just "alright". I mean, it's a very long beach, nice to walk on and everything but I rather have some palms along the beach and a nature surrounding instead of skyscrapers, you know?

Since I was quite hungry I stopped at a fish and chips place and got some decent fish and chips for 10$ and then made my way back to the hostel.
Being a bit disappointed from Surfers Paradise so far, I decided to go out tonight - I mean that's what Surfers is famous for - so it should be any good.
So..that's what I thought, but instead the club was far to small (especilly the dancefloor), the music was sh**, the drinks (as everywhere) to expensive and the atmosphere wasn't very good as well.
And if that wasn't enough I had to struggle with a hangover the next day and propably a food poisoning as well. That's why I spend most of the next day in bed and even had to cope with fever and shivering in the night - wasn't much fun...

So one could say, Surfers Paradise was my first stay I didn't enjoy very much. But alright, I guess I shouldn't complain after all the amazing places I've been to before and after :). As you can imagine I was happy to leave Surfers and head to Byron Bay to spend some time in a much nicer surrounding and better atmosphere.

Have a good one!
