Scooteroo and Surfing lesson

22.November 2011 - Agnes Waters

Hi everyone,

My next stay after Emu-Park was Agnes Waters, very near to Town of 1770, where James Cook first reached the shore of Australia.

As I already was told by many other backpackers I met, that I have to do the Scooteroo-Tour in Agnes Waters, that was my first aim for my stay there. The next item of the agenda was a surfing lesson I already booked in Cairns.

Both of these things were worth every dollar!

On the 22th of November I did the Scooteroo Tour - to those of you, who don't know what that is:
You get a leather jacket, helmet short-term tattos and a automatic motorbike. The next step is a short savety briefing and a round on the test track to get used to the bike. Then you and the 60 other short-time biker form a biker-gang and go for a ride around Agnes Waters. As long as you don't take yourself to serious you can have mad fun!

To my amazement the bikes where able to accelerate up to 80km/h and even more, if it was going downhill. (You don't need a motorbike driverslicense for this trip and they didn't even wanted to see my car-driverslicense - that was what I was wondering about.)

On the tour we were also rewarded with a lot of kangeroos relaxing around the meadows around Agnes - so I finally saw some Kangeroos in the wildlife!

The next day I got up early and was picked up by my surf-instructor. After picking up 8 other attendees, mostly germans, we headed for the beach and the fun was about to begin. First some basic instructions and guidelines and then we were about to go in the water.
It didn't take me long till I catched the first wave - first with some help from the instructor but after some more tries even without help. The low waves and the really big board made it probably a little easier to catch a wave and to stand up, but nevertheless I was very happy since I expected it to be much harder.
After 2 hours in the water I felt how exhausting surfing can be. As the surfing-lesson was past, our instructor drove everyone to their hostel and the rest of the day I spend with my head on my folded arms, totally tiered... :D.

On the next day I catched the Greyhound to drive to my next destination - Hervey Bay: Gateway to Fraser Island!

Stay tuned :D
