English:
we went up to the grand canyon on our second day of our stay near the national park and after we had parked our car we went for a hike alongside the canyon's south rim. amazing view after amazing view. at some points there are drop offs of over 1km deep down towards the colorado river which together with earthquakes and geoligical shifts have shaped this area over millions of years. and it is a massive area! we all thought that the grand canyon would just be this really deep abyss but it is a series of canyons stretched out so far that you cannot see the end of it. during our hike the weather got bad and we fought through a thunderstorm and hail on our way along the cliffs. it was truly amazing but also very tiring. we then returned to our camp site and on the next day drove out of arizona to lake mead just past the nevada state line.

An unserem zweiten tag im campinground nahe dem grand canyon national park fuhren wir zum canyon hoch und unternahmen eine wanderung entland dessen südlichem rand. die fläche über die sich der canyon oder besser gesagt die canyonS erstrecken ist wirklich riesig. wir hatten uns unter dem grand canyon eigentlich eine einzelne tiefe schlucht vorgestellt aber es sind viele durch tektonische bewegungen und den colorado river geformte gräben die sich so weit das auge reicht in die ferne ziehen. an einigen stellen des canyons geht es fast im 90 grad winkel 1km in die tiefe. inmitten unserer wanderung wurden wir dann von einem gewitter und hagelsturm überrascht und mussten daher eine kurze unterbrechung einlegen. der canyon hat wohl seine ganz eigenen klimagesetze, was ja auch klar ist wenn kalte luft einfach mal steil 1000m in die tiefe fallen kann. der weg war für uns ganz schön anstrengend und wir waren ganz schön geschafft als wir am nachmittag zum wohnmobil zurückkehrten. am nächsten tag ging es dann weiter zum lake mead kurz hinter der arizona /neavada grenze.
