west coast rulez!!

11.August 2010 - Perth

A few days ago, we arrived in Perth, for the second time because we had to drop off the Hong Kong girl called Karen. After leaving her in Perth, the four of us went to Wave Rock! =) I'll attach a picture so that you can see the reason of it's name^^
Anyway, we've seen quite a lot between the Karijini N.P. and Perth. For example: Cape Range National Park in Exmouth, Coral Bay, the World Heritage Area in Shark Bay or the Pinnacles =) All these places were beautiful!!
In Cape Range N.P. we snorkeled at Turquoise Bay. The reef was much bigger and more intact than at the Great Barrier Reef on the east coast. I've seen so much colourful fish... and a ray!! I was soo scared when I saw it, I was paralyzed^^ I didn't move but the ray did... and it was staring at me... O.o
Afterwards we went to T-Bone Bay and Lakeside. The name T-Bone was pretty funny because Karen, the Hong Kong girl, could not pronounce Thibault's name, the french guy. Instead she alsways called him a mixture of "The Bong" and "T-Bone" xD When we saw that name written on the road sign, all of us had to laugh^^
The next day, we went to Coral Bay where we also snorkeled although it was not as beautiful as Turquoise Bay. It's a damn touristic place so that, while snorkeling, you had to watch out for boats cruising along the coast... =/
The World Heritage Area in Shark Bay is one of the four places all over the world which are protected due to its plants and animals. In this area you can find a beach covered with small shells and also strange stone formations in low water called stromatolites. It was pretty interesting to read about all this amazing nature and to realise once more how less we know about our surroundings.
The Pinnacles! Definitely a must on the west coast! Scientists nor geographers know their creation although they have a few theories. The Pinnacles look like long rocks growing out of the sandy ground. Some of them are even 5m high! Walking around these high and rocky "sticks" it seemed to me that I was walking along a cemetery. So it was a bit spooky but, at the same time, you feel amazed how beautiful and bizarre nature can be. While the sun was setting, the colours intensified and it was even more beautiful =)
