Great sandy beaches, but jellyfish!

07.April 2010 - Townsville

Townsville is a really lovely city featuring endless sandy beaches lined with palm trees. The only downside is that there is no swimming in the sea from October till May, because of the presence of jelly fish. Especially the box jellyfish, which can kill humans easily. People can only swim in specially designed swimming enclosures, which keep out marine stingers. The sea is too warm for swimming anyway. We are very much looking forward to our trip to Magnetic Island, 8km off the coast of Townsville, tomorrow. Swimming will also only be possible in enclosures or with stinger suits. It's stinger suits tomorrow then! :)
