Warming up in Dubai

10.July 2014 - Dubai

Flight not as peaceful this time, a few little ones to break up the quiet ongoing movie session.

Thursday 10/7/14
Getting through customs was a breeze, but it's the quiet time in Dubai at present so not as many tourists.
Taxi's are quite cheap as you certainly can't walk anywhere as it's too hot... 45deg in the shade! The taxi from airport to Raddison Blue at Deira Creek cost $20 and did take about 20 mins even driving at 140kmh !
The hotel was great and staff very helpful.
As it's Ramadan month you are not allowed to eat or drink in public between 6am and 6pm, but after that the place comes to life again. We dined at Urano in the Souk al Bahar for dinner which was right on the creek where we enjoyed the dancing fountains and a superb view of the Burj Khalifa. What an amazing building !

Friday 11th - went to Mall of the Emirates that houses Ski Dubai, a man made ski resort within a shopping centre complete with luge ride and snowmen. A great way to escape the heat outside.
Back at the hotel we met our tour guide for the desert safari tour. We had 2 other Aussie couples in the 4WD with us, really nice people and we had a fantastic night. Totally recommend this tour ! Our guide Karhan, was on his first solo trip and after 1 mishap on a dune, had the 3 Aussie males, who all happend to own 4WD's trying to give him some pointers. We couldnt have belly dancers, but instead had a male turkish dancer, who was brillant. A real performance. We had a quick camel ride after dinner, then just sat on our mats at the table, chatted with the group and enjoyed the atmosphere.

Saturday 12/7/14 - Up early for our city tour which provided a lot of info and took us to sights we would not have seen otherwise, to the old town and a trip along the creek to the souk markets in an old wooden boat.
I did manage to find a beautiful white gold ring which Im hoping we bargined down to the right price......
Dined at an English Pub in our hotel that night, we were both a bit over the heat and just wanted to stay in the cool.
Although I was initially reluctant to go to Dubai, we are both so glad we did :-)
