myMapBlog.com | ilo https://www.mymapblog.com//rss/ilo The lasts posts from user ilo en-us San Francisco: Eureka! This is Anna and me in San Francisco!
"Eureka", the motto of California, is exactly the right description for today. It means something like "I've found it".
Today is Tuesday and we'll stay here for the whole rest of the week and leave on Sunday morning. Then our three weeks in the USA will be over.
The first thing we've done when we arrived, was going along the huge Golden Gate Brigde. I can just tell you that it's an awesome feeling!!
For the last few months I've had a photo of this brigde on my desk and I've looked at it everyday...and now I AM here!
We took lots of photos of us and the brigde, but we haven't found a possibility to upload them yet.
Anna absolutely wants to hop on a cable car and I'm interested to see parts of Haight Ashbury. Lombard Street, Chinatown, Little Italy, Fisherman's Wharf and the Union Square are also on our list of attractions we need to visit. There's so much to do and to experience here!
I'm sure it'll be a great time!]]>

somewhere in CAL: Fresno? At the hostel we're staying, we met again some nice people. Patrick from South Dakota wants to show us some American culture and takes us to a baseball match tomorrow. Go Fresno Grizzlies! ]]> http://www.mymapblog.com/ilo/25_07_10/Fresno~que/ http://www.mymapblog.com/ilo/25_07_10/Fresno~que/ somewhere in CAL: Bakersfield Unfortunately we don't really know where Bakersfield is located. Our money left is enough to rent a car and so we'll go in direction San Francisco tomorrow.]]> http://www.mymapblog.com/ilo/24_07_10/Bakersfield/ http://www.mymapblog.com/ilo/24_07_10/Bakersfield/ Albuquerque: High School Musical and Sandia Mountains This city is nice...I knew the strange name from "High School Musical" and I wonder if Albuquerque became more popular because of these films. I'm sure, in Europe it did.
The nature around here is great. The Sandia Mountains are impressive above all at sunset when they shine red. Maybe we're going on a tour there tomorrow. Anna read of a spectacular, and of course huge, Tramway that takes hikers up...We'll see if we risk that tomorrow.]]>

Dallas: Country atmosphere At first we're going to visit Stockyards in Fort Worth with the Australians. I think the boys will do some bullriding there. Anna and I will go to the "White Elephant", a famous saloon where several motion pictures were shot. We'll be the two of us again tomorrow, because the others will go on to Houston.
Then we will go to the Cheese Cake Factory and maybe eat one of the large menues. A friend of mine told me about famous cheese cakes like the white chocolate rasberry trueffle, a tiramisu cheesecake or Craig's crazy carrot cake cheesecake. This sounds so delicious!
Another attraction in this area is Gaylords, she told me. That's a huge hotel with kind of a park inside. There are several landscapes and sceneries to be seen that are copied. As she explained this hotel to me, I thought, "wow, that's so typical American..There's nothing that doesn't exist." Look at the photos to see where we're spending our time at the moment. ]]>

Memphis: Memphis, Tennessee I read at an information board that here the " World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest" takes place, which is in fact the largest in the world. Sounds like everything's about eating here - at least in a certain season.
Memphis is also very famous for its musical legends such as Elvis Presley or Johnny Cash. There must be inspiration to be found here.
Anna and me really enjoy the stay in Memphis because it's not that noisy and strenuous as in Chicago. Though, Memphis as a smaller city is still a lot bigger than our hometown Amberg.
We'll already move on tomorrow with a group of Australians who is also here. They have a bus and so they offered to take us with them to Dallas. Texas, here we come!]]>

Chicago: windy city I switch into English now because we're already used to that language. With Giulia and Antonia we also talk English all the time. Luckily, Anna and I had English as one of our advanced courses in school, so that's not a big problem. OK, it was a bit difficult in the beginning, but now it's really cool.
Chicago also has these skyscrapers downtown like NYC, but here is the Willis Tower (former Sears Tower) that is quite famous. We wanted to go up, but it was way too expensive for us. Antonia had the idea to go into one of the near skyscrapers, take the elevator to the highest store and ask if we can have a look out of the windows. But we didn't do it...somehow we were too shy.
Downtown Chicago, the Loop, is very cosmopolitan because of all the high-rise buildings and boulevards and shops and so on...kind of like Frankfurt/Main just bigger.
Our next plan is to travel south-west so we can hold our direction to SF. Giulia and Antonia will stay here for longer thus Anna and me will move on alone again. But we don't know yet, what will be our next destination.]]>

And I love the fact that I actually was there! ]]>

New York: the Big Apple Anna und ich sind in New York angekommen.

Nächste Woche solls losgehn nach New York.
